Hydrologic Performance of Low Impact Developments in a Cold Climate

The application of the low impact development (LID) in a cold climate such as northeastern China is constrained by two unresolved research questions with regards to its infiltration potential through winter and varied runoff regimes between winters summers. This study picked typical residential district under construction Changchun, China, modeled storm drainage system without LID facilities based on Storm Water Management Model. hydrological performance was evaluated various design storms historic rain events dry, average, wet years. influence Horton Green–Ampt methods seasonal water budgets particularly compared since former universally adopted while latter more widely used U.S. other countries. results indicate that method tended generate higher volume than method. Consequently, when driven 100-year storm, led 17.4% outflow method; measured 3-year precipitation area, yearly coefficients, method, were at least 1.3 times those finding challenged interchangeable use tests. Furthermore, formation snow covers also reduced permeability capacity managing summer. However, still exhibited decent regulating region baseline, possibly owing presence frequent freezing-thawing cycles.
